Garrigan's tenure with Amin goes extremely poorly. This could symbolism the gall of a lot of western interference in other countries despite it being seemingly the right thing to do. His action that earns Amins respect is when he kills a cow to put it out of its misery with Amin's gun despite nobody asking him to. Instead of helping any of the actual people he simply ended up aiding a dictator. He has only left home to have fun and "play the white-man with the natives." He has no idea about Ugandan politics but quickly falls in with the Dictator Amin ignoring his actual duty to the Ugandan children he was supposed to treat. He likely would not have known Uganda existed if not for random chance on the globe. But his second spin is on Uganda and he embarks on a journey. At first he lands on Canada a country so similar to his except you swap out English relations with US relations that he refuses. So he makes a major life decision on a whim by spinning a globe. That night Nicholas screams upon realization that he will have to take responsibility for himself soon and would rather just have a good time. Nicholas most likely only became a doctor through privilege and through his parents influence and legacy. His parents are extremely wealthy and his father even remarks that his degree is still better. The first scenes we see of him are enjoying his graduation like most college students would and then coming home to his parents. Nick Garrigan is a complete representation of Western countries in particular this generation of westerners.

The moment when this really stuck out for me was the line in the film during Amin and Garrigan's confrontation towards the end where Amin says "We are not a game. Idi Amin was a real person who most likely did a good percentage of the events in the film. His over the top attitude makes it easy for the viewer to have a high level of disconnect and forget for a moment that the events of film more or less happened. It's easy to look at Whitaker's Amin and be engaged in a similar way to other iconic villain characters like The Joker. Forrest Whitaker's performance of such a man was definitely the draw of this movie and the film not only knows this but plays on it. A man of similar vein to modern day dictators such as Gaddaffi or the Kims. Noted for his paranoia and alleged cannibalism.

A man who's full title is "His Excellency, President for Life, Field Marshal Al Hadji Doctor Idi Amin Dada, VC, DSO, MC, Lord of All the Beasts of the Earth and Fishes of the Seas and Conqueror of the British Empire in Africa in General and Uganda in Particular". What first drew you to the film? Most likely it was a film portrayal of one of the most psychotic men in history.
